They say there are 3 things in life that are inevitable, Death, Taxes, and Jacob deGrom. And if you didn’t believe that before tonight, I’m sure you do now. Saying that when Jacob deGrom is healthy he is the best pitcher in all of Baseball is an understatement, deGrom is already undoubtedly one of if not the greatest pitcher of all time. I know that’s saying a lot but when this guy is healthy and on his game, he is incomparable to any other guy in the game. While I can talk about deGrom all night, this is in fact a Philadelphia Sports site. And while the Philadelphia team in tonight’s contest wasn’t able to pick up the win, they sure put up a hell of a fight. How did a team that neglected to even score a run put up a hell of a fight you ask? Well, I guess you’ll just have to keep reading to find out…

Tonight we saw one of the best pitchers duels in recent memory, with two of the top guys in our game today going at it. Of course, Jacob deGrom possibly the greatest to do it on one side for the amazins’. And our very own Aaron Nola on the other side, Nola went an astounding 8.0 innings of 1 run ball. While deGrom went 6.0 innings allowing just 1 hit. The only run of the game came on a Pete Alonso single that would score Starling Marte in the 1st inning. But besides that both pitchers held strong, and both went the majority of the game without allowing a single runner on base. deGrom would go on to retire 16 straight batters, So Aaron Nola said hold my beer and 1 upped the Mets superstar Ace retiring 17 in a row. Finally, at the end of the game, the Phillies got a rally going, but as the trumpets sounded and Edwin Diaz emerged from the Mets pen everyone knew how it would end inevitably. Diaz would strike out Nick Castellanos for the final out after allowing Rhys Hoskins and JT Realmuto to reach base safely in the inning, ending one hell of a ballgame.

It’s games like this where we struggle to be mad at even our own teams for losing. And really when you look at it, how could you be mad at these guys? Aaron Nola went 8 innings allowing just 1 run against one of the most formidable offenses in baseball. While the Phils’ offense did struggle to find a footing tonight we have to remember who they were up against, I know I've said it now a hundred times but Jake deGrom is a different breed of human. It may not feel right, but it is normal to be shut out by this guy, does that automatically make it ok, no of course not. But it’s nothing to be ashamed of is all I’m saying, anyway the Phils got one more shot at the Mets again tomorrow afternoon back up at good ole’ Citi Field. But for now, good morning, good afternoon, and goodnight, and of course Go Phils’.
