Is the “The Union put out the “fire” joke getting too old? Something tells me it is. Nevertheless, the 1st place Union took down the Chicago Fire tonight in Chester, after a stinker last weekend in Cincinnati. Four Goals were more than enough for Andre Blake and company to hold off Chicago's offense that seemed sluggish at times. Kacper Pryzbylko also made his return to Chester tonight, I'll have more on that and everything else you'll want to know about tonight's game, right now…
The Union got off to a hot start tonight with a Danuel Gazdag goal just 15’ minutes into the game. Gazdag would drop back and float one into the top corner of the goal to give the Union a 1-0 lead that they would never give back. Kacper Pryzbylko would get a nice welcome back moment when he took a rip at Andre Blake and was denied ferociously as Blake's save, shot the ball back downfield. Pryzbylko; who spent 3 seasons with the Union, was known as one of the best to wear blue and gold in the short history of the Union. Pryzbylkos former teammate Jack Elliot would take the spotlight next scoring a tapper right in front of the goalie, as the ball bounced from the keeper's hands. Next in line to get his was one Julian Carranza, after a beautiful full-field pass from Gazdag, Carranza would take one off the goalie's deflection right into the net relatively uncontested. And finally with 9 minutes to go the Union would bounce the ball all around the box before giving it to Corey Burke to fire it in from point-blank range icing the game.
Any and every win and every point the Union can get at this point in the year is huge, especially as they are in the thick of the race for the Supporters Shield. As of tonight the Blue and Gold sit firmly in first place in the East with 48 points, Montreal now enters the idle position with 43 points, While NYCFC drops to 3rd with a loss to Inter Miami tonight. No matter what happens this is going to be a tough trek to the finish line and the best the Union can do is keep helping themselves by continuing to win these games. That's all for me, as always good morning, good afternoon, and goodnight, and of course go Union!
