PHOENIX - Well we asked for a response, and I think it’s pretty safe to say the Phillies gave us a resounding one tonight. Coming off a pair of losses that could both be chalked up as two of the worst of the season. The Phillies needed to have a statement game, and they got it. They scored more runs and racked up more hits than they have in any other game this season, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
It feels like we’ve been saying that a lot dosen’t it? “Couldn’t have come at a better time”. It’s probably because we have been saying it a lot. This year, this Phillies squad has exhibited the ability to get hits, score runs, and win games at the most opportune times. And that is one of the biggest qualities of a playoff Baseball team.
While the Phils offense was no doubt the story of the ballgame tonight, we can not overlook the great performance from one Bailey Falter. The young lefty went 6.1 innings allowing just 1 run on 5 hits before being removed halfway through the 7th due to an apparent injury. Falter has become a legit piece in this Phillies pitching staff and may have even earned himself a place on the playoff roster. When the rotation is back up to speed, I’d love to see Falter in an everyday long relief role.
Before we wrap up here we obviously need to talk about the Phillies incredible offensive performance. The team accounted for 18 runs on 22 hits, that’s the most runs since April of 2018, and the most hits since July 2007. It was truly an offensive explosion that we saw tonight from this Phillies squad. Every guy in the Phils lineup accounted for at least 2 hits and 1 RBI which is absolutely insane.
Now obviously you aren’t going to see this production from your squad every time they step on the diamond but when we see the once-in-a-blue-moon occurrence of an 18-run ball game, take it all in. However, the honeymoon phase can’t last all too long. After tomorrow’s off day, the Phillies will head up to San Fransisco to take on the Giants at Oracle Park. They will look to begin another win streak and start to once again put some space between them and the Padres in the Wildcard race. But for now good morning, good afternoon, and good night, and of course Go Phils!
