MIAMI FLORIDA - The Phillies have had a few players and teams numbers this season but maybe none more than Marlins ace and NL Cy Young favorite Sandy Alcantara. Through 6 games this year the Phillies hold an astounding 5-1 record against Alcantara, which is over 50% of his losses this season. Beyond even that the Phillies have scored 11 runs in the 7th inning or later against the Marlins ace this year. I’m not sure what it is but there is no question the Phillies have Alcantara’s number, and that’s certainly a good thing!

Tonight’s game started out slow as either side failed to score any runs until a 5th-inning jack from Brian De La Cruz would give in the Marlins a 1-0 lead. With the way Falter and Alcantara (at the time) were pitching, it looked like that may be all the Fish needed to come away with a victory. But Nick Maton had other plans as he ripped a two-run shot out to the Phils bullpen in deep right field. The pair of runs would prove to be all it would take to defeat the Marlins down in South Beach tonight as Jose Alvarado, Seranthony Dominguez, and David Robertson would come in in unison going 1-2-3 all in their respective innings. But we of course cannot forget the contributions of one Bailey Falter who picked up yet another quality start, lowering his ERA to 3.80. Falter, at one point in the season was seen as almost unplayable. Sitting in the high fives in ERA and annually giving up a run whenever he was brought in in relief, you couldn’t blame the Phillies for constantly sending the struggling lefty back down to AAA. But after many trials and tribulations, it seems Falter has finally found his footing in the big league rotation.

It was yet another strong outing for the Phillies who are now riding a four-game winning streak after sweeping the Nationals last weekend. The Phils do need to stay poised as they still have two more games in Miami and then a three-game set with the Braves to follow. The Fightins will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow night back in South Beach as Kyle Gibson takes the mound against the young Edward Cabrera. But for now wherever you are good morning, good afternoon, and good night and of course go Phils!
