ATLANTA GEORGIA - 14, that’s the magic number, that only a few days ago seemed just a few good wins away. Now, the Phillies are on a four-game losing skid and just got swept out of Atlanta.
After a win in Arizona today the Padres took the lead over the Phillies now standing a 0.5 game up. While the idle Brewers are only just three games behind the Phils. And the Phils issues are no secret, inconsistent pitching, and absolutely horrendous ABs.
The Phillies need to wake up and realize what they are doing to themselves soon or their new magic number will be 11, that is 11 straight seasons without a playoff birth.
Today’s loss was by all means not on the Phillies pitching, while the bullpen did give up 4 runs across 5.1 innings, we are talking about the Braves. But the star of the show was Bailey Falter who went 4.2 innings allowing only a run on just 4 hits. Falter has done wonders for a Phils rotation that has been without Zack Wheeler for 3 weeks now, and has had to deal with some uninspiring starts from the likes of Aaron Nola, Kyle Gibson, and Noah Syndergaard.
The issue in today’s game as I mentioned before lies with the bats. Braves starter Spencer Strider held a no-hitter on the Phillies until the 6th inning when Alec Bohm smacked one to dead center to tie the ballgame up.
But that would be all she wrote for the Phillies offense, besides a JT Realmuto pity home run in the top of the 9th the Phils bats would go down quietly.
No, I’m not going to sit here and act all smart talking about some “secret formula” the Phillies offense needs to help them get going. Because it honestly isn’t that deep, things like this happen in Baseball. Offenses get into funks and they need to hit their way out of it. The problem the Phillies have come across is, the simple fact that nobody can seem to hit a Baseball right now. Things will turn around for the offense, they always do. The question is will it be before it is too late? But for now, good morning, good afternoon, and good night, and of course go Phils!
