SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - The last time a Phillie recorded a 6-out save in a postseason game; was 42 years ago today. When legendary closer Tug McGraw set down 6 consecutive batters to claw the Phils to their first-ever world series title. All this happening only a few hundred yards from where Seranthony Dominguez stood today, completing the feat for the second time ever, poetic don’t you think?
Coming off a deflating loss in game two the Phillies were looking for a momentum grabber, and they got it tonight…
Kyle Schwarber started the night with a leadoff shot to right field, putting the Phils up early and immediately getting the crowd more riled up than they already were (if that was even possible).
But not long after, the Phils lackluster defense would once again rear it’s ugly head. As Jean Segura dropped what would have been an easy inning-ending double play, allowing Juan Soto to score from third.
This was just another valley in what was one of the most up-and-down games we’ve seen from any one player in a long time. Throughout the course of tonight’s ballgame, Segura would make two forgettable plays on defense, while also coming up with a difficult ground ball that saved an inning, along with snagging a late game line drive preventing a run from scoring. And of course, the 2 run single that gave the Fightins just what they needed to squeak past the Friars.
But finally, it was time for Seranthony Dominguez to enter the ballgame in the 8th inning after Jose Alvarado allowed a leadoff hit to Soto. Dominguez would come in and set the Pad’s down with ease, traversing the Phils to their second win in the series. Now they will look to take a commanding 3-1 lead tomorrow night back at CBP when Bailey Falter will take the mound against Mike Clevinger. But for now, good morning, good afternoon, and good night, and of course Go Phils!
