Eagles @ Commanders; Monday Morning Quarterback

The Philadelphia Eagles are 3-0, that is something Eagles fans have not been able to say about this team since 2016. While we all know how that season ended, this group promises to have a different outcome as we’ve seen them prove to us now time and time again that they are for real.

Yesterday the Birds took down the Washington Commanders 24-8 in packed a FedEx Field (packed with Eagles fans that is). Jalen Hurts led the Eagles to their second straight decisive win, as his connection with Devonta Smith was on display. The young Quarterback-Wide Receiver duo which thrived last season was thought to have fallen off a bit with the addition of All-Pro wideout AJ Brown. But the former Crimson-Tide duo were clicking on all cylinders combining for 8 connections, 169 yards, and a touchdown. While AJ Brown also joined in on the fun with 85 yards and a touchdown on his own.

The Eagles defense was also on point with a record 9 sacks on Commanders QB Carson Wentz. In addition, the D picked up an interception along with some high-leverage PBUs. This Eagles defense very well has the potential to rank among tops in the league in most if not all categories.

3 Observations/Takes

1. The Devonta Smith-Jalen Hurts connection is alive and well

As I mentioned earlier in the piece, the Eagles young duo of Jalen Hurts and Devonta Smith was on full display yesterday. But before the Eagles game in Washington, there were some doubts as to if the duo would be able to recapture their magic from last season. Now with his full compliment of receivers and a good connection between Hurts and both of his top wideouts the Eagles offense is poised to break out in a big way.

2. Brandon Graham is still a force on the Eagles D-line

After going down in week 2 of last season there was much doubt that Brandon Graham would ever play Football again. But after a rigorous offseason training program, the 35-year-old Graham was back at full force to start the 2022 season. And if there was any doubt that Graham was not still an elite for on this Eagles Dline, BG put all that to rest yesterday. Graham tallied 4 tackles and a monster 2.5 Sacks. And with this Eagles D-line finally coming full circle and playing to their potential, it could prove to be a fun year for the Birds D.

3. The Eagles defense could prove to be tops in the league this year

This was the second straight week that the Eagles defense was able to hold the opposition under 10 points. Not only that, the Birds defense racked up a record 9 sacks and recorded yet another interception. Through this point in the season, the Eagles defense has proven to be a force to be reckoned with for any opposing offense. I truly believe if they can play up to their potential for the rest of the season, this unit has the potential to be a top 3 group in the league.
