Could the Eagles be a legit Super Bowl contender? Could Jalen Hurts be a dark horse for the MVP this season? Has the NFL severely underrated Darius Slay? These are just a few of the takes that im sure we’ve all heard thrown out there today. Whether it be on podcasts, local sports radio, and now even national TV you just can’t seem to get away from the Eagles hype train that now seems to be pulling out of the station just on schedule.

Last night left Eagles fans with a whirlwind of emotions, with much more good than bad. And rightfully so as we saw possibly the best single-game QB performance since the Super Bowl. While the defense stood tall holding the Vikings potent offense to just seven points, and picking off Kirk Cousins three times.

Now while it may be too early to judge some of these big-picture topics I’m about to mention, that is what the Monday Morning Quarterback is for. Tune into any Philly sports talk radio on a Monday (or Tuesday) and you will hear some outlandish predictions, to say the least. I’m going to try to keep my head out of the clouds while stating my takes but as always there are no promises.

  1. Has the league overlooked Darius Slay?

Since being acquired by the Eagles in the 2020 offseason, it has been proclaimed by many that Darius Slay is simply not the player he once was during his days in Detroit. But through the first two games of the season, Slay has shown that he still deserves the same respect he was appointed in years past. During last night’s game Slay picked off Vikings QB Kirk Cousins twice, while also coming through with multiple clutch PBU’s in some big spots. Leading many to indeed proclaim that Darius Slay is back, but now the question may be; did he ever leave?

  1. Jalen Hurts for MVP?

If you said that we’d be talking about a potential MVP year for Jalen Hurts even 24 hours ago people would call you crazy. Hurts, while not mediocre, hasn’t been necessarily out of this world for the Eagles since acceding to the starting position after the Carson Wentz debacle. But through the first two games of the season, we’ve seen a new Jalen Hurts one that can fool the defense with his arm and his legs. And I honestly believe that is what will help to send Hurts skyrocketing up MVP polls this year. That being his uncountered ability to use his arm and legs with high efficiency, combined with the innovative play calling of Shane Steichen and Nick Sirianni that will always keep defenses guessing for what is next when protecting against the Birds offense.

  1. Are the Eagles legit Super Bowl contenders?

Ahem… I just wanted to remind everyone to check back at my preseason predictions when the Eagles end up at 13-4 and win the NFC East this year. But really, this Eagles team actually looks like it could be a real contender this year. With the roster assembled by Howie Roseman, along with the continued stellar play of Jalen Hurts, and the Eagles very own “Kid Wonder” in the Nick Sirianni behind the playsheet. This team has a legitimate chance at a possible Super Bowl bid. The unique situation where the NFC boasts no clear front runner has presented itself to the Eagles. If the Birds can take care of their opponents, rack up some wins, and show how good they really are. I see no reason that a vision of Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown holding up the Lombardi come seasons end could be implausible.
