SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - There was no way the Phillies would lose this game, right? Wrong, obviously. Maybe we were blinded, blinded by the national spotlight, the big-time hype, and the cringy songs. We regret to remember, that under the disguise are still the same old Phillies we know and envy. Soon enough, the magic will end, the bandwagon will stop, and the fair-weather fans will leave. Am I overreacting? Maybe, but in my eyes; tonight was the key to the title, and they blew it.

After splitting games 1 and 2 in Houston and games 3 and 4 in Philadelphia, the Phils were looking to take ahold of the series and put themselves in the driver’s seat as they headed back to Houston for games 6 and 7. A huge factor in holding on for this long has been the work of the Phils pitching. Though we’ve seen some struggles from the likes of Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler, we have also seen a Phillies bullpen that boasts a -1.00 ERA.

Many rightfully believed that with the electric pace the bats have operated with, in days past that all the Phils may need a strong day from Noah Syndergaard and company to put them in the driver’s seat of this series. However, it seemed to be quite the contrary. As the Phils pitching worked to mow down the likes of Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, and Kyle Tucker. The hitting struggled heavily going up against the world-class Astros defense.

Phillies hitters combined for only six hits today, four of them coming from two guys. Though an early Kyle Schwarber bomb to right gave the bats some life they were never able to catch up with the Astros. Though it may feel like it’s over, it’s not. This season is far from over for the Phils who will take part in game 6 in Houston on Saturday night. Now as the fate of their season rests in their own hands, we will finally get to see this heart strong team do their thing once again.
