Phillies
It was a great week for the Fightin Phils as they went 6-1 sweeping Cinncinati and taking 2 of 3 from the Pirates. This was a much-needed boost after a tough weekend series loss to the Mets. The Phils started off the week with a relatively easy laid-back win vs the Reds on Monday where Noah Syndergaard went 7 innings of one-run ball and kept the Reds at bay. Game two and three were not so laid back as the Phillies needed to fight through the late innings to take down a scrappy Reds squad. They would eventually, winning both games 7-5 and 7-6 respectively. Finally, game four offered some relief as Aaron Nola threw a complete game shutout, slamming the door on the Phils four-game sweep of the Red Legs. More good news was on the horizon as Bryce Harper made his much-awaited return to CBP on Friday against the Pirates. Harper went 1-4 with two RBIs in his first game back. The Phils would continue their dominant play Saturday shutting out the Pirates earning their second no-runner of the week. Sunday ended the week on a stinker as the Phils were shut out themselves 5-0 by Roansy Contreras and the Bucs.
Darick Hall was optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley to begin the week, this move was not dependent on play so much as the Phillies wanting to give Hall as many ABs as possible and that is not possible with Bryce Harper returning to the lineup, as he will need to serve as DH. Expect to see Hall back for September call-ups.
After a short appearance in which he allowed a home run vs the Mets Sunday. Tyler Cyr was released by the Phillies and eventually claimed off waivers by the Athletics.
Bryce Harper was reinstated from the 60 Day IL and started on Friday night vs Pittsburgh. After a long 3 months, Bryce Harper finally returned to the Phillies lineup. The 2021 MVP will look to help the Phils make their final push into the postseason.
Zach Wheeler was placed on the 15-Day IL with Right Forearm Tendinitis Friday. Wheeler has struggled as of late and it could very well be attributed to this apparent injury that has flared up. The Phillies are hopeful for an early September return for their Ace.
Brandon Marsh was also reinstated from the IL Saturday. Marsh suffered a Sprained Ankle and Bone Bruise last week in Cinncinati and made a relatively quick recovery. Marsh’s return prompted the release of Bradley Zimmer who spent the last week with the Phils making a few nice plays in his short time in red pinstripes.
Eagles
The Eagles lost to the Miami Dolphins 48-10 in their final preseason game Saturday night. Besides for a few nice defensive plays and a Jason Huntley 67-yard touchdown run, there wasn’t much action or notable play from any guys fighting for a job. Final cuts take place this coming Tuesday now we just wait and see.
The Eagles have released RB DeAndre Torrey, CB Josh Blackwell, and Jarrid Williams. They have also placed TE Tyree Jackson and OT Brett Toth on the PUP list. This brings the Eagles roster down to the required 80 players.
Joint practices were suspended between the Eagles and Dolphins on Thursday due to a Stomach Bug outbreak among the Dolphins players and Staff. The Eagles did still practice as they would without the Dolphins back in Philly.
The Eagles signed Josh Blackwell after releasing him earlier in the week this comes after Ugo Amadi was traded to Tennessee for a 6th-round pick. This means that the Eagles essentially received a 6th-round pick for JJ Arcega-Whiteside and a 7th-round pick, take that as you will.
Flyers
Flyers head coach John Tortorella announced Monday that he does not think that Ryan Ellis will be available for opening night. Ellis has been dealing with a lingering Pelvic injury since last season and is doubtful to begin the season.
The Flyer resigned both Wade Allison, and Linus Hoberg to Two/Way deals this week. Allison will most likely begin the season the roster while Hoberg is expected to play for Lehigh.
The Flyers have also signed Rasmus Ristolinean to a 5-year extension worth $25 Million. This dosent make much sense as the Flyers are trying to get younger and retool, but nothing this team does makes much sense anymore.
Sixers
No new developments out of Sixers camp this week as the long offseason drags on in the NBA.
Union
The Union have signed Homegrown midfielder Jermey Ranfanallo to the roster.
The Union beat the Colorado Rapids 6-0 in Chester on Saturday. The Blue and Gold earned their second straight 6-0 win this weekend taking down the Rapids. The Union offense was clicking on all cylinders as usual, with another hat trick this time from Daniel Gazdag. Julian Carranza, Corey Burke, and Matt Real also scored for the Boys In Blue. As usual Andre Blake was electric in goal saving the only shot on goal of the day as the Union defense kept Colorado at bay.
Stars
Nothing new from the Stars this week, expect some signings next week as final cuts for the NFL are released.
Wings
The Wings resigned Keil Matiez to the roster this week on a 3-year pact through 2025.
