SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - It seems the Eagles have found their formula for winning, and there is little question as to if it’s working as they head into the bye week at 6-0.
A combination of timely defensive stops and strong Quarterback play was no doubt the difference in tonight’s game as we notably saw Cowboys QB Cooper Rush struggle against the vaunting Birds defense throughout the night.
But through 6 weeks it seems that a similar recipe for victory has been thrown out each game. With success however comes the struggles, and the Eagles 2nd half woes that have haunted the squad early this year, continued… and almost cost them the game.
After a strong first half that saw the Birds jump out to a 20-0 lead midway through the second quarter, the team would evidently stall out. The offense struggled to gain any advantage, while the defense gave up consecutive scores on a 14-yard Ezekiel Elliot run and a Jake Furgeson reception respectively.
But as we’ve seen on multiple occasions already, the team (especially the defense) would get hot at the right time. As CJ Gardner-Johnson emerged from the locker room after an apparent hand injury, he jumped right back into the game intercepting Cooper Rush and putting the game on ice late.
And after a missed 59-yard field goal attempt from Brett Maher in the waning minutes of the game, it became clear the Eagles would emerge victorious over their hated rivals for only the 3rd time since 2017.
Though many issues remain obvious if you are the Eagles, you are 6-0 and clearly still one of the best teams in all of Football. But as Jalen Hurts has preached to this team over the last few weeks, “there is always room for improvement, and there is always a time and a way to get better”. You cannot ignore the Eagles outstanding play this year, but as we said there is always room for improvement. Luckily the Birds will get some time to hone their craft next week as they enter bye before welcoming the Steelers to town in week 8. But for now, wherever you are, good morning, good afternoon, and good night, and of course Go Phils!
