HOUSTON - Wow, that has been my one word to describe the 2022 season for the Philadelphia Phillies. There is honestly no better word to do so. From coming into the season with playoff hopes to going out to one of the most abysmal starts in team history. Then firing their manager and preparing to build for the future. To turning it around and making a run all the way to the world series as the final wildcard team. This has been one of the most incredible seasons in franchise history, and we are all privileged to have witnessed it.

People will try to draw comparisons to 1980, 1993, and 2008, but the 2022 Phillies are truly a team of their own and a special one at that. It is extremely difficult to swallow a loss such as this, after one of the most gut-wrenching seasons in recent memory. Many won’t be happy with the excuse of “we weren’t supposed to be here in the first place”. Though it may be true if you are in the world series you are obviously good enough to win it.

Though, Houston was the better team, it was clear to see. Their sheer offensive firepower along with lights-out pitching in the bullpen and rotation, paired with gold glove defensive play. The Stros were on a path with destiny, it’s possible to say that they were too good to beat, and many wouldn’t argue it. There is no shame in losing to possibly one of the greatest squads of all time, though it may sting now we will be able to look back fondly on this season for decades to come.

Years like these are how memories are built, how fans are made, how franchises are imortallized, and how history is made. This team showed us, you don’t need to be the best, or have the best record, or the craziest stats, or even the all-star players. All you need to do is believe in the guys next to you and above all else, love the guys next to you. These dudes had so much fun together this season just playing Baseball and I believe that’s why they made it this far, it sounds cheesy but it’s true.

As we prepare to look ahead, the offseason will loom heavy. With one of the greatest free agency classes in history, it’s a safe bet Dave Dombrowski will be making moves on day one. Another starting pitcher, along with a couple of bullpen arms could prove vital in finishing the jigsaw puzzle that has become this Phillies squad. As the likes of Edwin Diaz, Carlos Rodon, and Jacob deGrom all look to find new homes this offseason. While there will be additions, as usual, there will be losses, One of the biggest could be Jean Segura. Segura, 35, has been a vital piece of this Phillies team for the past 4 seasons. However, with his contract up, it seems increasingly unliking the former Allstar will return to Philly next year. Though rumors of a possible Trea Turner signing have been floated around, we will need to wait and see what the Phillies brass has in store for us this winter. For now one last time (until next season); good morning, good afternoon, and goodnight, and of course Go Phils!

Paragraph 4 and 5: Baseball is the best sports metaphor for life because of the many games (situations) compared to most sports seasons. It’s more like the long grind if life, with more ups and downs, Lessons Learned, etc. I’m a Phillies fan but appreciate the personal stories of baseball and the Astros have their share. The total baseball (for Philly) package was good in 2022, including the the addition of Broad Street Sports. The future looks Bright.
