PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Eagles got their third wide receiver.

The Birds struck a rare in-division deal with the rival Washington Commanders Thursday morning to acquire former first-round pick and Penn State wideout Jahan Dotson.

Dotson comes to Philly along with a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and a pair of 2025 seventh-round picks. A decent haul for a young receiver who has yet to completely prove himself at the NFL level.

Dotson, 24, attended Nazareth Area High School before becoming one of the best wide receivers in the nation for Penn State. The 5 '11, 184 lbs receiver played all four years for the Nittany Lions between 2018 and 2021 where he recorded 2775 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns.

Dotson was selected 16th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Commanders where he’d spend the next two seasons amassing 84 REC, 1041 YDS, and 11 TDS through 29 games. Despite Dotson’s struggles, the QBs pinned to him over those two seasons should be partially to blame for his rocky NFL start.

The Newark, NJ native dealt with the likes of Sam Howell, former Eagle Carson Wentz, and Taylor Heinicke behind center between 2022 and ‘23 respectively all while competing for targets with the likes of Pro Bowl wideout Terry McLaurin.

Coming into the season in Midnight Green should be a welcomed sight for Dotson who will get to take a step back from being a top option behind the likes of AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Saquon Barkley it’ll give the young wideout a chance to hone his craft and see touches when they fit him best.
