CLEARWATER. FL - The Phillies took down the Yankees 4-0 in their Spring Training home opener Sunday afternoon.

The Phils got the day off to a good start, taking a 3-0 lead in the third inning. A Cristian Pache single to score Weston Wilson made it 1-0 as Garrett Stubbs and Trea Turner knocked in runs of their own to push the advantage to three.

Pache would stay hot in the fourth inning with a solo home run to put the Phils up 4-0.

Aaron Nola got the start for the Phils in his first action of the Grapefruit League season, the Phils “Ace” went 2.0 hitless innings while striking out three. Matt Strahm, Jeff Hoffman, Jose Alvarado, Mick Abel, and Seranthony Dominguez all would pitch the Phils hitless through the seventh inning before Gregory Soto allowed a single off the bat of the Yankees’s Greg Allen to break up the bid. Austin Brice finished out the game for the Phils on the bump, pitching yet another scoreless frame.

With the win, the Phillies moved to 2-0 in the Grapefruit League Spring Training season. They will head to Fort Myers tomorrow to take on the Boston Red Sox at 1:05 pm.
