LADELPHIA. PA - The Phillies took down the Atlanta Braves 5-4 in comeback fashion during game one of the club’s four-game weekend series with the division foe Thursday night.
Christopher Sanchez took to the bump to open the day, and despite the run totals had some good stuff - working through six innings of four-run baseball.
Orlando Arcia kicked off the day offensively for the Braves with an RBI double in the top of the second to make it 1-0 Atlanta quickly.
Matt Olson quickly followed that up with a two-run home run of his own in the top of the third to make the score 3-0 Atlanta.
Alec Bohm did leave the game with an apparent hand injury. All x-rays soon came back negative for serious fractures, but the Phils third basemen’s status remains in the air for the immediate future.
Matt Olson would cap off his day in the top of the sixth with yet another moonshot to make the score 4-0 Atlanta.
Not long after however the Phils bats began to wake up, starting with Brandon Marsh who launched a three-run home run to left field to make the score 4-3 Atlanta.
Next up was Nick Castellanos, who made it a Phils ballgame, knocking a two-run shot in the bushes in center field, giving the Phillies a 5-4 lead.
The combined efforts of Matt Strahm and Jeff Hoffman helped to close the game out through the eighth and ninth innings as the club secured a game-one victory over their intra-division rivals.
Next up for the Phils will be a Friday night bout with these same Braves as this four-game series continues. You can see the 6:40 PM first pitch tomorrow evening on NBCSP or listen on 94 WIP.
