PHILADELPHIA, PA - Out with the old and in with the new, that was the motto of tonight.

As the Phillies said goodbye to an old friend one last time, they said hello to a new one in a big way.

Rhys Hoskins, who was drafted by the Phillies with the 142nd pick in the fifth round of the 2014 draft - spent nine seasons in the Phillies organization (seven with the big club) - and made countless memories in the city of Philadelphia returned to his former home as an opponent for the first time during the Phillies 3-1 win over his Milwaukee Brewers.

Hoskins, received a huge ovation prior to the bottom of the second inning after a tribute video. The former Phille proceeded to make his way to the dish all to receive another ovation before popping out to the shortstop Edmundo Sosa to end the second inning.

Revenge did however come for the Big Fella as he launched a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to make it 3-1 Phillies and give Milwaukee their first and only run of the night.

As for the Phils, they didn’t have as much trouble crossing the plate as both Edmundo Sosa and Johan Rojas recorded RBI singles in the bottom of the second inning to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.

As for the Phils third and final run, it came at the hands of the newest member of the club; David Dahl. Dahl, a career .272 hitter who blasted 44 home runs in his major league career got another tonight in his Phillie and season debut as he knocked one into the stands in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 3-0 Philly.

Dahl got the call to the big leagues earlier today after Brandon Marsh and Kody Clemens both hit the injured list. He made his return to the bigs alongside Weston Wilson who had also been raking in AAA.

Through 43 (147 AB) games for Lehigh Valley the 30 year old Dahl hit .340 with a 1.076 OPS and 12 home runs.

As for the Phils pitching, Zack Wheeler carried the load for a majority of the game despite fighting his way through at times ultimately finishing the day with 115 pitches through seven innings of work. The Phillies starter finished the day with a run and five hits allowed along with three walks and six strikeouts.

Out of the pen it was Jeff Hoffman (H, 8) and Jose Alvarado (S, 10) who took the eighth and ninth innings respectively to close out the game.

With the win the Phillies advance to 42-19 (.689 PCT) on the season and hold a seven game lead on the Braves in the NL East. They maintain a marginal lead for the best record in the National League while now coming to par with the Yankees for the best record in all of the MLB.

The club will now look ahead to tomorrow night when they once again face off with the Brewers for a 6:40 PM EDT first pitch from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA. It will be the lefty Cristopher Sánchez (3-3 | 2.83 ERA, 56 K) who takes the mound for the Phillies against a Brewers starter to be named. You can see the game on NBCSP and listen on 94 WIP along with 1680 WTTM,
