ATLANTA, GA - It felt almost like a scheduled loss in Atlanta today as the Phillies fell to the Braves 6-0 on a hot and sunny day in Cobb County Georgia.

With Michael Mercado taking the mound for his second start following the first of his major league career, last week against the Chicago Cubs - the Phils hoped the righty could give them enough to earn the series win in Atlanta. That however was not the case, the San Diego native went only 1.2 innings and allowed five runs - burying the club in a hole they’d never even get close to coming out of.

From that point on a few measly hits scrambled throughout the game was all the Phillies could muster. The club went 0-8 with RISP on the day, leaving nine runners on base.

The lone highlight of the afternoon was the debut of Tyler Phillips. The 26 year old right hander out of Lumberton, New Jersey went four complete innings while striking out seven batters. He allowed just one run on an Eli White home run to left field.

With the win, the Phillies are now 58-32 (.664 PCT) on the season and hold a 8.0 game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. They’ll now look ahead to Tuesday afternoon when they face off with the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park. You can catch the game on NBCSP and listen on 94 WIP.
