SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - After a weekend where runs came at a premium for the Phils, tonight’s win was a surprise on a plethora of levels as the Phillies downed the Miami Marlins 15-3 at CBP.

When the Phils walked into the ballpark this afternoon preparing to faceoff with reigning NL Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara, the prospect of a 15-3 win probably didn’t creep into many of their minds.

Well, four innings and nine runs later the Marlins ace would be sitting in the dugout while Alec Bohm cracks a two-run shot 440ft to left center field.

Bohm, who has been off to a torrid start for the Phils went 3-5 tonight, crossing the plate twice and driving in six runs on the way to one of the best nights of his young career.

After the game, Bohm had this to say about his newfound stride, “I feel like I’m not trying to hit home runs anymore, and it is all just starting to come to me”. Manager Rob Thomson added, “His power is definitely coming, he’s bigger and stronger, it’s only a matter of time before he becomes the hitter we all know he can be”.

Bohm however, wasn’t the only Phillie to boast a big night, while both Nick Castellanos and Brandon Marsh kept up their hot starts it was starter Matt Strahm who stole the show early on for the Fightins’.

Strahm, a reliever by trade, has taken full advantage of his time in the Phils rotation. In 10.0 innings the former Red Sox setup-man has recorded a 0.00 ERA, humorously enough becoming one of the Phils most reliable starters through the first few weeks of the season.

In the past, we have seen games like this rejuvenate the Phils and help them turn it around during a slump. Even after catching a lot of flack for yesterday’s lackadaisical loss, the Phillies are in a prime spot to turn this early-season narrative around in a big way. With the club’s next six contests being against the Marlins and Reds, these upcoming games could mean the difference in the team’s early season trajectory.

Tomorrow Aaron Nola will take to the bump as the Phils once again faceoff with Jesus Luzardo and the Marlins. Luzardo, who boasts a 0.71 ERA through 12.2 IP will prove to be a tough customer for a Phils offense that may have just found its stride.

You can catch tomorrow night’s, 6:40 pm First pitch on NBCSP, MLBtv (subscription required), and the NBC Sports App, you can also tune in on 94.1 WIP and MLBtv (subscription required).

You captured an important game well, It’s big because it shows the Phillies what can be done this year, even in less than ideal circumstances: stars sidelined, etc. Our core historic pitchers should only improve so that’s in our favor.
